Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl was full of praise of Donyell Malen, after the forward continued his excellent run of form on Saturday.

Donyell Malen starred once again on Saturday evening as he scored a brace in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Netherlands international appears to be in the best form of his Borussia Dortmund career at the moment. And Sebastian Kehl is delighted to see Malen finding his feet after a difficult start to his BVB career.

In an interview with WAZ, the Borussia Dortmund sporting director said:

"“We’ve known for months that he has incredible potential, and we knew that last year as well. “He is an incredibly enriching element for this team, that was the idea behind his signing and I’m glad he’s showing that much more often now. The last step was still missing for him and he has taken it now. Donny has gained incredible self-confidence.”"

Malen joined Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 but endured a difficult first 18 months in Germany. There were even reports claiming that the BVB bosses may consider selling him in the summer if his form does not improve soon. But the 24 year old has certainly turned the tide in recent weeks.

Malen has scored in each of his last five appearances in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund, and has also assisted three goals over this period. Edin Terzic said after the game against Eintracht Frankfurt that Malen’s performance was one of his best in a BVB shirt.

Donyell Malen’s excellent run of form has played a crucial role in his side’s renewed title bid. Borussia Dortmund now find themselves one point clear of Bayern Munich with five games left in the Bundesliga this season. And if Malen continues to perform as he has done in recent weeks, BVB will certainly fancy their chances of winning the Bundesliga title for the first time in 11 years.
