Marco Reus has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund and will now stay at the club at least until the end of next season.

The future of Marco Reus has finally been resolved, with the club captain ending months of speculation by signing a new one year contract with Borussia Dortmund. The 33 year old put pen to paper on his new contract on Thursday, and will now stay with the Black and Yellows at least until the end of next season.

Reus has been a key part of Borussia Dortmund since joining the club from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012. He has been with the club through thick and thin. But the attacking midfielder’s future appeared to be in a bit of a doubt with his original contract expiring at the end of the season.

Despite the rumours, Reus made it clear that his preference was to stay at Borussia Dortmund until the end of his playing career. The BVB bosses wanted him to take a significant wage cut to extend his contract. And after tough negotiations, an agreement was finally reached between the two parties earlier this month.

Reus said after extending his contract that he couldn’t imagine playing for any other club.

"“I’m determined to give my best for the club I’ve spent more than half my life with. There is still no better feeling for me than scoring goals in front of the best fans in the world and in the most beautiful stadium in the world. That’s why I’m delighted to have extended my contract, because I’ve always said that I don’t want to play for any other club in my career than BVB.”"

Marco Reus has made a total of 382 appearances so far for Borussia Dortmund, and has 161 goals to his name. He is the club’s second highest goalscorer of all time, having recently overtaken Michael Zorc in the list. The new contract will give the Germany international the opportunity to chase after Alfred Preißler’s record and become the club’s all-time record goalscorer.
