Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup for VfL Bochum clash
By Ali Boty
Midfielders – Emre Can, Jude Bellingham, Julian Brandt
This area of the pitch may be the most difficult when it comes to selection calls, as Edin Terzic has many options and will need to find the right balance to win the midfield battle. Emre Can, one of the season’s standout players, will slot into the number six role and be the pivot. He will have his work cut out for him as VfL Bochum like to play with a high intensity and look to set their forwards in behind the defence with long balls from their defence and goalkeeper.
The engine of the midfield will be Jude Bellingham. The Englishman will be important in supporting the forwards in the build up and counter-attacking transitions. Bellingham has scored five goals and created four in the league so far this season. He will look to add to his tally after scoring against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend.
Julian Brandt is set to start in attacking midfield. Although the Germany international has played on the wings often this season, he has recently been moved to the middle of the park given the form BVB’s wingers are currently in. He has been an excellent creative outlet for the team, and will be crucial again on Friday.
Another option for the attacking midfield position is Marco Reus. However as mentioned, given the form that BVB’s forwards are in, Brandt will likely be in the number ten role.
