Borussia Dortmund could look to sign Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez if Jude Bellingham decides to leave the club this summer.

The future of Jude Bellingham is set to shape Borussia Dortmund’s plans for the summer transfer window. Real Madrid are said to be leading the race for his signature, and it is being reported that they are confident of signing him in the summer. The BVB bosses are already looking at potential replacements, and BILD claim that Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez is one of the names on their list of targets.

The tabloid adds that Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing the Mexican international, who could be available for a fee in the region of 40 million euros. A number of top clubs in Europe have been linked with a move for Álvarez in recent weeks, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

The 25 year old is primarily a defensive midfielder, and is also capable of playing at centre-back. He is a much more defensive minded midfielder than Bellingham, who prefers to venture forward and feature in Borussia Dortmund’s attacking play.

Edson Álvarez joined Ajax from Mexican side Club América in 2019 and has established himself as a regular starter for them. He has made a total of 143 appearances for Ajax and has more than two years left on his current contract with the Dutch side.
