Bayern Munich defeat Werder Bremen to go four points clear in Bundesliga title race
Bayern Munich took another big step in their bid to win the Bundesliga title on Saturday by claiming a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen.
It was a hard fought struggle but Bayern Munich managed to get the job done against Werder Bremen on Saturday evening. Second half goals from Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané helped Thomas Tuchel’s side earn a 2-1 win and move four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
Bayern Munich weren’t able to grab control of the game in the first half but finally managed to find the breakthrough in the 62nd minute, with Gnabry opening the scoring. Sané then doubled the defending Bundesliga champions’ lead ten minutes later.
A stunning strike from Niklas Schmidt helped Werder Bremen halve the deficit in the 86th minute. But the Bavarians held on to claim the all-important three points.
Bayern Munich’s win means that they are now four points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga standings. The Black and Yellows will have the chance to cut that gap to one point on Sunday, as they take on VfL Wolfsburg at the Westfalenstadion. Anything other than a win would all but end BVB’s title hopes.
There are just three more matchdays left in the 2022/23 Bundesliga season after this one. Bayern Munich’s next game will see them go up against relegation threatened Schalke 04 at the Allianz Arena. And Borussia Dortmund will be hoping for a favour from their arch-rivals as they look to pip Bayern to the Bundesliga title.
