FC Augsburg head coach Enrico Maaßen wants Borussia Dortmund to win the Bundesliga title, but is also determined to get the three points against them this weekend.

The penultimate matchday of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season is almost here, and Borussia Dortmund face another tricky away game this weekend against FC Augsburg. Enrico Maaßen has now had his say on the game and its importance to the Bundesliga title race.

"In an interview with SportBILD, the Augsburg head coach said: “We have already helped Dortmund this season by beating Bayern Munich 1-0 at home. We have proven time and again that we can beat the big boys in our stadium.”“After a decade, I would on the one hand like to see a different champion for the league and also for my old home, I would be happy if Dortmund won the Bundesliga title.”“On the other hand, we still need points to avoid relegation, and we want to get them at home in the next game. Borussia Dortmund have a real flow, but we’re also strong at home and extremely unpleasant for our opponents.”"

Enrico Maaßen left Borussia Dortmund II last summer to become FC Augsburg head coach, and has enjoyed a fairly solid debut season with them. The Bavarian side are currently 13th in the standings, and are expected to comfortably avoid relegation.

Augsburg have a strong record at home this season, and have already beaten the likes of Bayern Munich, Union Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen. They also gave Borussia Dortmund a big scare in the reverse fixture, so Edin Terzic’s side will have to be at their very best to end their woeful away form and get the three points on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund will also be hoping for a favour from third placed RB Leipzig this weekend, with Marco Rose’s side set to face Bayern Munich on Saturday. If Bayern fail to beat Leipzig on Saturday, the Black and Yellows will have the opportunity to put themselves in the driver’s seat to win the Bundesliga title this season with a win against Augsburg.
