Borussia Dortmund’s talented attacker Karim Adeyemi has won the 2022/23 Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.

With the Bundesliga season coming to a close with two match days to go, the yearly awards have begun to trickle in, highlighting players that have excelled in the league this year. Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi managed to get the fan vote for Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for 2022/23, an award fitting of the performances Adeyemi has put in for Die Schwarzgelben, particularly in the second half of the season.

Adeyemi faced competition from the likes of Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern München), Henning Matriciani (FC Schalke 04), Lee Buchanan (Werder Bremen), Tom Krauß (FC Schalke 04) and Junior Dina Ebimbe (Eintracht Frankfurt) , who were also in contention for the award. The Germany international had quite the stuttering start at the beginning of the season, however just like much of this current Dortmund side, he came to life in the second half of the season. His eye for goal and scintillating pace has made him one of Dortmund’s most important players, with Adeyemi chipping in with12 goal involvements in the league (6 goals and 6 assists).

Adeyemi’s general output for this season and overall turnaround this year for Die Schwarzgelben bodes well for the 21 year old who has made himself at home out wide for Dortmund. His most memorable performance of this season will have to go down as the 2 goals and assist he chipped in with during Dortmund 6-0 demolition of VFL Wolfsburg earlier in May. He was completely unplayable and very much involved in a lot of what Dortmund did right in the final third. He also gave fans a taste of his aerial ability, opening the scoring with a high-flying header that set his team up for what was to be an emphatic scoreline.

While Adeyemi has done his best to prove why Dortmund fought so hard to sign him in the summer of 2022, the sky is the limit for the young German international. We can expect that he will only get better and continue to play a critical role for Dortmund’s attack for years to come.
