There is said to be growing confidence at Borussia Dortmund that Mats Hummels will sign a contract extension that will keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.

Mats Hummels’ current contract with Borussia Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season, and the veteran centre-back has long been mulling on what he wants to do beyond the summer transfer window. Now a solution finally appears to be in sight.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Black and Yellows are confident that Hummels will sign a new contract with the club very soon. Talks are said to be progressing well to the final stages, and the hope is that the 34 year old will sign the paperwork in the coming days.

It has been reported that Borussia Dortmund have offered Hummels a one year contract extension. Sebastian Kehl said earlier this month that everyone at BVB wants the 2014 World Cup winner to stay at the club beyond the end of the season.

Mats Hummels has been a reliable presence in the Borussia Dortmund defence whenever called upon this season. He delivered some outstanding performances in the first half of the season, and has also come up with a number of crucial defensive plays in recent weeks.

Hummels will be hoping to win the Bundesliga title for the sixth time in his career this week, with Borussia Dortmund holding a two point lead at the top of the standings going into the final day of the season. Then perhaps he can sign a contract extension and lead the BVB defence for another season.
