Marius Wolf (4/10)

Wolf had a very difficult time defensively and struggled to cope with Mainz’s quality on the counter attack. He then picked up an injury and did not play in the second half.

Niklas Süle (6/10)

Süle struggled to get his positioning right at times in the first half. But he recovered well and won a number of crucial duels. The centre-back also scored late on to make it 2-2.

Mats Hummels (5/10)

Hummels failed to close down Onisiwo quickly enough in the build-up to Mainz’s second goal. He had trouble dealing with the away side’s incisiveness on the counter-attack early on, but also made some crucial defensive contributions for his side.

Julian Ryerson (5/10)

Ryerson struggled defensively but got into some good positions going forward. Some of his crosses were dangerous, but his play often seemed to be very one-dimensional.
