Sebastian Kehl has admitted that the disappointed is high at Borussia Dortmund after they missed out on the opportunity to win the Bundesliga title.
Borussia Dortmund are still reeling from the aftermath of their failure to win the Bundesliga title. Everything was set for a title party at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday. But the Black and Yellows failed to beat Mainz 05, handing the Meisterschale to Bayern Munich after a dramatic final matchday of the Bundesliga season.
Sebastian Kehl gave his thoughts after the game and admitted to feeling a huge sense of emptiness.
"“Not just me, but everyone who works at Borussia Dortmund and everyone in the team is feeling a great sense of disappointment. What we are all feeling right now is impossible to describe. It’s a huge void.”"
The Borussia Dortmund sporting director also thanked the fans at the Westfalenstadion who rallied behind the players and showed them incredible support at full-time. He added that the club will recover from this setback and rise back up again.
"“The Südtribüne tried to rally the team and the coaching team quickly after the end of the game. That was really impressive, and that’s what makes this club so special.”“I can only tell everyone that at some point we will look forward again and attack. Just like the fans sang outside: Borussia Dortmund will never go down. It feels quite difficult today. But we will get up again.”"
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s failure to win the Bundesliga title, they can still take plenty of encouragement from the way they managed to turn things around and fight for the title until the very end. Edin Terzic’s side were nine points behind Bayern Munich going into the winter break. But they suffered just one defeat in the second half of the season and were minutes away from winning the Bundesliga title.
Sebastian Kehl and co. will now work behind the scenes in the coming weeks to bolster the Borussia Dortmund squad and set their sights on another charge at the Bundesliga title next season.
