Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted that Borussia Dortmund’s failure to win the Bundesliga title hurts beyond belief, but is determined to ensure that they fight for the top spot again next season.

Borussia Dortmund lost the Bundesliga title on goal difference on Saturday, bringing a bitter and crushing end to their season. After enjoying an incredible turnaround in fortunes in the second half of the season, the Black and Yellows were left devastated after an 89th minute winner helped Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga for the 11th year in a row.

Everyone at Borussia Dortmund will be reeling from the setback of missing out on winning the Bundesliga title for days to come. Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted that the result will sting for some time. But he knows that they are not far behind Bayern Munich, and is determined to make sure that they rise back up and fight for the Bundesliga title again next season.

"In an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, the Borussia Dortmund CEO said:“We’ve been working towards becoming German champions time and again for eleven years. Then to be caught out in the 89th minute on the final matchday, it hurts beyond belief. And it will stay that way for a few more days.”“We won’t deviate from our goal and want to fight for the Bundesliga title again because we feel we’re very close. But that also means that we have to know from the first matchday that every goal is important and can be decisive in the end.”"

Despite the disappointing end to the season, Borussia Dortmund have plenty of positives to take from their performances in recent months. The platform is well and truly set for Edin Terzic’s side to launch another real charge for the Bundesliga title next season.
