The feasibility of Borussia Dortmund moving for Youri Tielemans

Having taken as look at what Youri Tielemans would offer on the pitch for Borussia Dortmund, we now come back to the notion of how feasible a transfer to Germany might be. This is where any sort of move gets a bit complicated.

Lets start by looking at Tielemans most recent earnings at Leicester City. The Belgian international was earning approximately 120,00 pounds a week, or approximately 139,000 euros a week, which would equate to over 7 million euros a year. This salary, while not unaffordable, is certainly on the high end for a club like Dortmund. As we’ve seen recently however, they have shown the ability to make solid financial offers to players they deem deserving.

Tielemans would certainly expect to be one of the higher earners at the club, meaning that he would be looking to improve on his already hefty salary. The issue with this doesn’t necessarily stem from Dortmund’s ability to offer a fair wage increase for his services, but rather from the fact that they would likely be competing with Premier League clubs in this regard. It’s no secret that clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United would be able to offer astronomically higher compensation, so any offer Dortmund would present would have to stand out from a sporting perspective.

Borussia Dortmund came extremely close to dislodging Bayern for the tile of “Deutsche Meister” this season, particularly because the Bavarian club were in the middle of struggles of their own. Die Schwarzgelben would have to show Tielemans, as they will likely try to do with many of their targets this season, a path that shows this to be an achievable goal for next season. If they can successfully do this, then the club would have a chance of convincing the Belgian international to join, but that is also dependent on where his personal priorities are as well.

Signing Youri Tielemans would prove to be a considerable success for Dortmund, should they indeed target him and manage to pull it off. As a player, he fits the profile of the type of signings the club should be looking at; proven players who are perhaps not yet superstars but have the experience and remaining potential to still hit that mark. At 26, Tielemans will be entering his prime soon, which means any deal he chooses to sign may end up being the most important of his career in a sporting and financial sense.

In Dortmund, he has the option to be part of a defining era for the club and pave the way for a level of success the club has been bereft of for over a decade. As far as statements of intent go, Tielemans would make for a formidable one that could not only help offset the loss of the players BVB will bid farewell to this summer, but also help improve the general quality and depth of the side as a whole.
