According to reports, Real Valladolid defender Iván Fresneda’s release clause has dropped in value due to the Spanish club’s relegation from La Liga.

As Borussia Dortmund look to invest in new faces ahead of the 2023/24 season, the club may have been handed a financial boost regarding one of the club’s top targets. Real Valladolid right back Iván Fresneda has seen his release clause drop to 20 million euros due to the club’s relegation from La Liga.

Dortmund seem to still be in the pole position to sign the player, as they have shown concrete interest in obtaining his services since the winter transfer window. This drop in price will likely make the deal far more affordable for the club and nullify some aspect of competition from other club’s who may have been able to offer substantially more for the player’s services.

There is also the chance that the Spanish youth international may end up leaving Valladolid for even less than the “discounted” release clause valuation. Considering the amount of areas Dortmund need to reinforce this summer, this will also bring some much needed financial respite, and may prove to be quite the bargain should the move come to fruition.

Fresneda has been courted by a few other clubs from both England and Italy, namely Arsenal and AC Milan. With the release clause as low as it is, it would stand to reason that the club that lands the Spanish youth international this summer will have to do so by presenting the player with the best possible sporting project.

In terms of sheer game-time, Dortmund would be able to offer the most time on the pitch as Fresneda’s competition would mainly consist of Mateu Morey and Marius Wolf, with Julian Ryerson available to play the position when required. With the club also very much keen to part ways with Thomas Meunier, Fresneda would be brought in as the club’s first choice option for the position.
