Everyone associated with Borussia Dortmund has had to endure a difficult few days. The Black and Yellows had the opportunity to halt Bayern’s Bundesliga monopoly and lift the league title for the first time since 2012 but a draw against a resilient Mainz side meant that Edin Terzic’s men missed out on the Meisterschale.

Everything about May 27 was heartbreaking for Borussia Dortmund. Nothing went according to plan for BVB. Early goal conceded, penalty missed, countless opportunities squandered, and in the end nothing to show for all the hard work and scintillating displays of 2023.

Despite the sad and devastating end to what was a brilliant second half of the season, there are plenty of reasons for optimism for Borussia Dortmund fans. Here we look at three of the main ones.

Edin Terzic has brought the emotional factor back at Borussia Dortmund

For the first time since Jürgen Klopp, the yellow wall has found a head coach they can identify with. Klopp famously told the BBC back in 2013 ‘Tactical things are important but the passion makes the difference.’

For a club like Borussia Dortmund, passion means a lot. Even after losing the title in such a heartbreaking manner, we saw the incredible support the squad received at the stadium.

The fans believe in the coach and the players. This is one of the most likeable squads to represent the club in years. And Terzic played a huge role in making sure that the team gives everything out on the pitch.

Having grown as a BVB fan himself, Terzic understands what the crowd wants from the man leading from the touchline and his team.

Despite some questions regarding his tactical approach and in-game management, it is clear that he is building a team that believes in each other and is determined to fight to win trophies together. This team can grow and improve as a unit and that is enough reason for optimism.
