Mahmoud Dahoud joins Brighton on a free transfer

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Mahmoud Dahoud, with the midfielder joining on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
It was already clear that Mahmoud Dahoud would be leaving Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season. And now Brighton & Hove Albion have announced that the midfielder will be joining them on a four year contract. After six seasons with the Black and Yellows, Dahoud is set for a new challenge in the English Premier League.
A number of clubs were interested in signing Dahoud after Sebastian Kehl revealed in February that his expiring contract will not be extended. But Brighton & Hove Albion have won the race for his signature. The 27 year old is expected to replace Alexis Mac Allister in the Brighton squad following his move to Liverpool.
Mahmoud Dahoud joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017 amid high expectations. After a couple of years of inconsistent performances, he finally managed to establish himself as an important player for BVB under Edin Terzic in 2021. But back-to-back shoulder injuries brought a halt to his progress, and he failed to make his way back into the team’s plans.
Dahoud made a total of 141 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring five goals and assisting a further 17.
It will be interesting to see how Dahoud fares in England. Brighton & Hove Albion will also be playing in the UEFA Europa League next season after finishing sixth in the English Premier League standings in the recently concluded season.
