Marius Wolf has said that he would like to stay at Borussia Dortmund with his current contract expiring at the end of next season.
There are just 12 months left on Marius Wolf’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund, and it was reported earlier this month that the BVB bosses are keen to offer him a new deal. The versatile wide player has now had his say on his future, and he hopes to stay at the club beyond the end of next season.
In an interview with Spox, Wolf said when asked if there have been talks with the club over a contract extension:
"“No, I didn’t want to let that distract me during the season. At first, my focus was on coming back after my surgery. Then the games were too important. But I feel good in Dortmund. It’s always been my club, I’d like to stay.”"
The recently concluded season was full of ups and downs for Wolf, who had to undergo heart surgery in November before establishing himself as a regular starter for Borussia Dortmund following the turn of the year. The 28 year old also won his first cap for Germany earlier this year, which came as a great surprise to him.
Wolf has now reflected on the recently concluded season, which also saw Borussia Dortmund miss out on the Bundesliga title on goal difference after being held to a draw by Mainz 05 on the final day of the season.
"“It was extremely bitter to miss out on the Bundesliga title by such a narrow margin. After the final whistle, all I felt was emptiness. Personally, though, I also associate the past season with a lot of good things. Being nominated for the national team was the icing on the cake in a positive sense.”"
Marius Wolf, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018, has made a total of 90 appearances for the club. The boyhood BVB fan will now look to build on his impressive performances from this season and continue his progress for both club and country over the next 12 months.
