West Ham United have reportedly been priced out of a move for Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez, with Borussia Dortmund now leading the race for his signature.

Edson Álvarez is said to be Borussia Dortmund’s top midfield target for this summer, and they now appear to have a clear path at signing him after West Ham United pulled out of the race for his signature. This is being reported by the Guardian, who add that Ajax want a transfer fee of around 47 million euros plus bonuses for the defensive midfielder.

That price tag seemingly makes Álvarez too expensive for West Ham United, leaving Borussia Dortmund as the favourites for his signature. The Black and Yellows are hoping to pay a fee of 35 million euros plus bonuses to sign the Mexico international, which is a lot less than the asking price mentioned in the report.

It has been widely reported in recent weeks that Edson Álvarez would like to join Borussia Dortmund this summer. And there have even been claims that he has reached an agreement with the club on personal terms. The BVB bosses will look to reach an agreement on the transfer fee with Ajax director of football Sven Mislintat in the coming days.
