With another season in the books, Borussia Dortmund have many lessons and insights to take from it. The Bundesliga title race certainly gave fans heart attacks, and many shed tears along the way, but there is always something to learn from past mistakes.

Borussia Dortmund’s 2022/2023 season saw the club go through a series of events that really put fans through an emotional roller-coaster. From the surprise sacking of Marco Rose at the end of the season prior, to the appointment of Edin Terzić, Dortmund decided to restart a new project from zero, and consequently, ups and downs were expected.

The team showed their best and worst this season, from good performances playing exciting offensive football to inexplicable losses that inevitably cost us the Meisterschale. Many of the club’s more detrimental performances were altogether very avoidable, which added to much of the frustration surrounding the club.

Despite the fact that it all culminated in a sad and frustrating end of the season, Dortmund provided the fans with something that wasn’t seen in quite a while at the Westfalenstadion: hope.

In some cases, hope ends up being a feeling that excites you at first and then comes back to bite you when things don’t go according to plan. But honestly, in the case of this Dortmund side, I couldn’t disagree more.

As one of the greatest, albeit fictitious football managers of our time, Ted Lasso, once said: “I think it’s the lack of hope that comes and gets you.” So, even with the harsh feeling of not taking advantage of the chance to win the Bundesliga, it was hope that got us in the position to have that chance in the first place, and that feeling will keep us moving forward.

Now, without further ado, here are my 2022/2023 Borussia Dortmund’s Season Awards. Here is a list to celebrate the good things we had from this last season, heal from our wounds, and realize that hope is what will guide us to a brighter future.
