Mats Hummels was another player who completely turned his form around this season after having spells of inconsistency post re-joining the club in 2019. Over there course of this season, Hummels reminded us of what a talented a player he is, even at 34 years old. His ball-playing skills and experience proved extremely useful to BVB during the season, finishing as a starter even with Nico Schlotterbeck returning from injury.

Most importantly, Hummels’s leadership and personality were the main things that supported the young stars in the squad. Marco Reus could also be cited as an honorable mention, but Hummels’s comeback story and strong finish qualified him for this award. Schlotterbeck and Süle are certainly the future, but Mats Hummels showed that he still has some gas left in the tank.
