Donyell Malen’s resurgence is one of the main silver linings that we can take from the 2022/2023 season. Since his announcement as a new signing in 2021 to replace Jadon Sancho’s after the Englishman’s departure, Malen has performed below expectations. Over the course of this season, he changed that.

After two years at the club, the Dutchman finally had his breakthrough season, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists in 35 games in all competitions. His performances improved significantly, showing confidence in dribbling and shooting while using his physical attributes to win duels. If he continues or gets better, Donyell Malen could be part of a promising attacking trio with Adeyemi and Haller for the seasons ahead.
