Borussia Dortmund pull out of race to sign Edson Álvarez

Borussia Dortmund have decided not to sign Edson Álvarez due to Ajax’s high asking price for the midfielder.
Edson Álvarez will not be joining Borussia Dortmund after the club pulled a U-turn and decided against signing him. Multiple reports claim that Ajax’s asking price proved to be too much in the end for the Black and Yellows.
The BVB bosses had already reached an agreement on personal terms with the Mexico international. But now they have decided to go with Emre Can as their specialist defensive midfielder for next season, and are in talks to extend his contract. An agreement with Can over a new contract could be reached in time for the start of the season.
It was reported earlier this week that those in charge at Borussia Dortmund are having some initial doubts over how much money they would have to spend to sign Álvarez.
Ajax reportedly wanted a fee in the region of 35-40 million euros, which would have made the 25 year old Borussia Dortmund’s most expensive signing of all time.
It will be interesting to see how Borussia Dortmund proceed with their plans for this summer transfer window after pulling out of the race to sign Edson Álvarez. Signing new midfielders is high on BVB’s list of priorities following the departures of Jude Bellingham, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Raphael Guerreiro.
Borussia Dortmund are said to be in talks to sign Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha, and have also been linked with the likes of Conor Gallagher and Morten Hjulmand in recent weeks.
