Report: Edson Álvarez deal not 100% off the table for Borussia Dortmund
The deal to sign Edson Álvarez is not yet fully off the table from Borussia Dortmund’s point of view, according to a report in Germany.
Borussia Dortmund made the decision to pull out of the race to sign Edson Álvarez last week, with reports claiming that Edin Terzic has decided to go with Emre Can as his first choice defensive midfielder for the coming season. But according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport, a move to sign the Mexico international is not 100% off the table from BVB’s point of view.
It remains to be seen just how much truth there is to this rumour, considering the fact that Borussia Dortmund have limited money to spend this summer and are already on the verge of signing Felix Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of 30 million euros.
Ajax had reportedly set an asking price of 35-40 million euros for Edson Álvarez. And signing both him and Nmecha would almost certainly prevent the Black and Yellows from making signings in other areas that need reinforcements.
Álvarez and Borussia Dortmund had already reached an agreement on personal terms before those in charge informed the player that they will not be going ahead with the transfer. The 25 year old is still expected to leave Ajax this summer, and has also been linked with West Ham United, Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks.
Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in signing highly rated midfielder Sergio Arribas, who could leave Real Madrid on loan this summer.
