Nico Schulz allowed to skip training to hold talks with other clubs

Borussia Dortmund allowed out of favour left-back Nico Schulz to miss training on Wednesday so he could hold talks with other clubs.
Nico Schulz is free to leave Borussia Dortmund, having fallen out of favour at the club. The left-back was absent as the BVB players returned to the training ground for performance diagnostics tests on Wednesday, and multiple reports in Germany claim that this was so he could hold talks with other clubs.
Borussia Dortmund have been trying to get Schulz off the club’s wage bill for more than two years now. But a move has not yet materialised as of yet. The 30 year old has just under 12 months left on his BVB contract, but he is free to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
Schulz joined Borussia Dortmund from TSG Hoffenheim for a fee in the region of 25 million euros in 2019, but has not been able to make any impact on the pitch. He hasn’t played in a competitive game for the Black and Yellows since May 2022, and was frozen out of the first-team squad by Edin Terzic last season.
Nico Schulz earns an annual salary in the region of 5.5 million euros, so it is no surprise that Borussia Dortmund are desperately trying to part ways with him. It remains to be seen which clubs are in talks to sign the former Germany international. But the collective hope will be that a solution can finally be found that allows Schulz to leave the club this summer.
