Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl has applauded Niklas Süle for his efforts in preparation for the approaching Bundesliga campaign.

Per Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl has commented on the developments surrounding Niklas Süle and his fitness ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga season. According to the club’s Sporting Director, Süle has gone above and beyond in his preparations to improve his overall fitness:

"“He  [Süle] did significantly more on vacation than everyone else. He wanted to prepare better, more intensively for this season. If Niklas stays healthy, works on his issues, then he will become much, much better.”"

Kehl’s comments come at a time where the German international’s fitness has been a recurring focal point for both the player and club, with Germany National team coach Hansi Flick having his own say regarding the player’s fitness back in June. The former Bayern Munich coach challenged Süle to “take a step forward in terms of his attitude and mentality”, while also conceding that he is capable of being one of the best center backs out there.

It is of course still very early days in terms of pre-season preparations, but Kehl’s comments are a welcome insight into how these preparations are taking shape. On an individual level, Süle came to Dortmund to prove himself, and he was one of there club’s most integral players during last season’s title challenge. His continual improvement over the course of the next few months will only reinforce Dortmund’s chances of competing at the highest level next season, and perhaps his efforts will be rewarded with a piece of silverware we can all celebrate come this time next year.
