Jose Carmona

Another right-back at a Spanish club in disarray is Jose Carmona. Playing for a Sevilla side desperate for money, Carmona split time between Sevilla and a loan at Elche last season. The 21 year old Spanish defender can play at right-back and centre-back, and we know that versatility is a trait valued at Borussia Dortmund.

The defender has shown an ability to do everything at youth level and is coming off a season with over 1000 minutes in La Liga. His overall statistics do not give the full picture of a player who has split time between two positions. He played 589 minutes for 20th placed Elche and 527 minutes for Sevilla, revealing how playing for a struggling side can affect the outlook of a player.

Carmona completed 81.5% of his passes at Sevilla, compared to under 70% at Elche. This is also partially due to him being shifted wide more often for Elche. Carmona also played 450 Champions League minutes for Sevilla and featured in both matches against Borussia Dortmund, mainly at right centre-back in a back three.

Carmona is a capable right-back who is excellent technically. Fast and tall, he could be a good rotation option at right-back and is likely to be an upgrade on what Dortmund would expect from Soumaila Coulibaly at centre-back. Carmona could be poised for a breakout campaign following his second half of the season, where Elche were .76 expected goals better with him on the pitch.
