Sebastian Kehl is confident that Borussia Dortmund will have a very good squad next season despite their relatively quiet start to the transfer window.

Pre-season is underway at Borussia Dortmund, and preparations are in full swing for the start of the new campaign. Sebastian Kehl gave an update on the Black and Yellows’ squad planning during a media round on Friday. The BVB sporting director said that they are well on track in their plans, and hinted that they could make a few more moves in the coming weeks.

"“We have signed Ramy Bensebaini and Felix Nmecha this summer. But we had already made two signings for this summer in Julien Duranville and Julian Ryerson in the winter. If you add the five transfers from last summer, that’s already nine signings.”“But we still want to do something in one or two positions, we are observing the market. Of course, we will also wait to see if something happens on the sales front. It’s a process at the moment, but it’s going according to plan. We have a clear idea and structure. So no one needs to worry. We will have a very good team.”"

Despite Kehl’s optimism, it has been a less than ideal start to the transfer window for Borussia Dortmund. The club’s failure to sign Edson Álvarez and Iván Fresneda, combined with the controversial arrival of Felix Nmecha as Jude Bellingham’s replacement have meant that reinforcements are still needed in a number of positions.

Kehl also spoke about the prospect of replacing Bellingham, and said that the England international’s impact means the responsibility will have to be shared by multiple players in the team.

"“Replacing Jude Bellingham with a single transfer won’t be possible because he did so many things for us. But our task, and also mine, is to develop creative solutions, to try and spread the responsibility on multiple shoulders.”"

Midfield, right-back, and centre-back are three positions Borussia Dortmund may look to strengthen in the coming weeks. Sebastian Kehl and co. will also be keen to ensure that the sales of unwanted players go through. Thomas Meunier, Nico Schulz, and Thorgan Hazard are all free to leave BVB this summer.
