Emre Can

Emre Can enjoyed an incredible turnaround during the second half of last season, and became somewhat of a fan favourite at the club. Despite failing to deliver on a regular basis since his move from Juventus, he suddenly became a key part of the team after the winter break.

The question surrounding him is whether he will keep a cool head when the pressure is mounting and the team needs a lift. We have all seen that the midfielder can sometimes be reckless and rash with his decision making on the pitch in his pressure situations. He did show great maturity at times last season, most notably in the crucial matchday 33 away game at Augsburg.

Nico Schlotterbeck

Considering his young age and the fact that he has only been at the club for 12 months, Nico Schlotterbeck is not among the big favourites to take over the captaincy. But he showed leadership attributes with his performances last season.

Schlotterbeck enjoyed an impressive debut season at Borussia Dortmund. It didn’t take him long to adapt to his new surroundings and justify the praise he was getting while at Freiburg. The Germany international never shies away from a duel and is someone who fans hope will shape the future of the club in the coming years. But it remains to be seen if he will be entrusted with the captaincy just yet.

Niklas Süle captained Borussia Dortmund during their first game of pre-season, with the other three players in contention still on their post-season breaks. At the moment, it looks like there will be a tight race between him and Kobel for the honour of becoming Borussia Dortmund captain.
