Report: Borussia Dortmund working to sign Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer, who is free to leave Bayern Munich this summer.
Signing another midfielder is high on Borussia Dortmund’s agenda for the rest of the summer transfer window. And according to BILD, the Black and Yellows are trying to convince Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer to join the club.
The Austrian international has fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich, and is free to leave them this summer for a fee in the region of 15 million euros. That asking price could make him an affordable target for Borussia Dortmund, who are in desperate need of further midfield reinforcements.
Sabitzer spent the second half of last season on loan at Manchester United. But the English Premier League club decided against signing him on a permanent transfer, and he has now returned to Bayern Munich. The 29 year old wants to move to a club where he will be appreciated and given regular playing time.
Borussia Dortmund could face competition from AS Roma for Sabitzer’s signature, with reports claiming that the Italian side has already submitted an offer to him.
Marcel Sabitzer has plenty of Bundesliga experience under his belt. He spent seven years at RB Leipzig, before moving to Bayern Munich in 2021. But he has found playing time hard to come by at Bayern, and is expected to leave the club this summer.
Sabitzer recently scored five goals as Bayern Munich claimed a rampant 27-0 win over ninth division side FC Rottach-Egern in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.
