Wolfsburg head coach Niko Kovac believes that new Borussia Dortmund signing Felix Nmecha has what it takes to become a world-class player.
Borussia Dortmund completed the signing of Felix Nmecha earlier this month, with the midfielder joining from VfL Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of 30 million euros. Wolfsburg head coach Niko Kovac has now had his say on Nmecha. And he is convinced that the midfielder will be able to make his mark at BVB.
"In an interview with Sky Sport, Kovac said:“He is a great kid who can become a world-class footballer. The way he has developed is extraordinary, not only at the club, but it has also put him in the spotlight and brought him into the national team.”“I believe that he now has a new challenge in Dortmund, a completely different level again. And that’s Champions League, that’s fighting for the championship. You have to prove yourself. He will do it, I’m convinced of that. That’s why we’re also happy to have played a small role in his development.”"
Felix Nmecha enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Wolfsburg last season, and also earned his maiden call-up to the Germany squad. The 22 year old scored three goals and assisted a further six in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season.
Nmecha’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund was not without controversy though. Several BVB fans protested the transfer due to the fact that the midfielder has shared and liked a number of homophobic and transphobic posts on social media in recent months. Nmecha said that some things were taken out of context. And the BVB bosses also gave him their full backing.
Borussia Dortmund signed Felix Nmecha as their replacement for Jude Bellingham, and the task of replacing the England international will certainly not be an easy one. And it will be interesting to see how Nmecha fares in his debut season with the Black and Yellows.
