Borussia Dortmund maintained their perfect pre-season record by claiming a 6-0 win over San Diego Loyal on Thursday evening.

Julien Duranville, Youssoufa Moukoko, Marco Reus and Sebastien Haller were all on target as Borussia Dortmund marked the start of their US Tour with a 6-0 win over USL Championship side San Diego Loyal at the Snapdragon Stadium.

Led by newly installed captain Emre Can for the first time, Borussia Dortmund only needed two minutes to open the scoring. And it was Duranville who made it 1-0. The talented Belgian winger showed great close control inside the box before finding the bottom corner on the turn.

Youssoufa Moukoko then showed fantastic determination to win the ball back high up the pitch before rounding past the goalkeeper for BVB’s second goal in the 27th minute.

Unfortunately, Duranville was forced to come off in the first half after sustaining a thigh injury. And Edin Terzic brought on the likes of Sebastien Haller, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Ramy Bensebaini at half-time.

Marco Reus scored Borussia Dortmund’s third goal at the hour mark with a beautifully struck free-kick. It became 4-0 just two minutes later, as Thomas Meunier found the back of the net after being set up by Thorgan Hazard.

Sebastien Haller made it 5-0 from the penalty spot, before Paul-Philipp Besong completed the scoring in the 89th minute with a fine finish under pressure.

Despite the dominant win, it wasn’t a faultless performance from Borussia Dortmund. There were a number of avoidable errors – especially in the first half, which Edin Terzic criticised after the game. Had San Diego Loyal been slightly more clinical in front of goal, the final scoreline could have been very different.
