Borussia Dortmund received a double injury scare during their 6-0 win over San Diego Loyal on Thursday evening, as both Julien Duranville and Nico Schlotterbeck were forced to come off.
Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a 6-0 win over San Diego Loyal in the first game of their 2023 US Tour. But the Black and Yellows will now be sweating on the fitness of Julien Duranville and Nico Schlotterbeck, who were forced to come off due to injuries.
Duranville, who opened the scoring for Borussia Dortmund in the 2nd minute, was forced off due to muscular problems in his thigh in the 16th minute. While Schlotterbeck twisted his knee in the second half.
Edin Terzic said after the game that he made the changes because he did not want to take any risks with the fitness of the duo. The BVB head coach added that a final diagnosis is not yet available.
"“We still have to wait for the diagnoses. Julien felt a pull in the back of his thigh. We didn’t want to take any risks. With Nico Schlotterbeck, I saw that he got caught up in a duel with their player and stayed down. We didn’t want to take any risks there either.”"
Borussia Dortmund will hope that Duranville and Schlotterbeck do not have to spend too long on the sidelines. There are a few injury concerns in the BVB camp at the moment, with Gio Reyna and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens still on the comeback trail and Felix Nmecha not yet fully fit either.
Borussia Dortmund’s next pre-season match is on Sunday and will see them face Manchester United in Las Vegas. While their first competitive game of the 2023/24 season is just over two weeks away.
