Marcel Sabitzer’s debut against his former club

Borussia Dortmund were largely outplayed in the first half and were lucky to be in the lead at half-time thanks to Donyell Malen.

With this in mind, there wasn’t much of a purpose for Marcel Sabitzer in the majority of the first half to excel under. But by the end of his shift, he was able to have a hand in both of his side’s first half goals. He provided his first assist for the Black and Yellows and played combatively in the heart of midfield against the English Premier League side he was on loan at last season.

A fair reflection of the Austrian’s performance would be that he did a decent job all things considered. He wasn’t able to stamp his authority on the game, but didn’t do much wrong either.

It is difficult to tell how Terzic will use him, Can, Brandt and Nmecha in the same squad. But if Nmecha is fit to feature in the next game against Chelsea, we may have a better idea of what the starting XI might look like against FC Köln.
