Borussia Dortmund will face Ajax on Sunday in what will be their final summer friendly match ahead of the start of the new season.

Just two days after returning from the United States, the Borussia Dortmund players will head to the Westfalenstadion for their season opening ceremony and friendly match against Ajax. This will be BVB’s final pre-season friendly ahead of next weekend’s trip to TSV Schott Mainz in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

The entire Borussia Dortmund squad will be at the sold-out Westfalenstadion for the team presentation. But a number of key players will miss the game against Ajax due to injuries. That list includes Gregor Kobel, Gio Reyna, Nico Schlotterbeck, Julien Duranville, and Thomas Meunier.

Summer signings Marcel Sabitzer, Ramy Bensebaini, and Felix Nmecha will play at the Westfalenstadion for the first time in Borussia Dortmund colours on Sunday. Newly installed captain Emre Can will also get his maiden opportunity to address the BVB faithful.

Former Borussia Dortmund target and Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez will miss Sunday’s game as he is still on his post-season break after representing Mexico at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. It is also being reported that he is closing in on a move to English Premier League side West Ham United.
