Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi sidelined with “muscular issues”

Borussia Dortmund wide-man Karim Adeyemi was not involved in his team’s final preparatory match against AFC Ajax.

With Borussia Dortmund’s first competitive game against Schott Mainz in the DFB Pokal just around the corner, there is a growing concern regarding the injury list Dortmund have had to deal with throughout pre-season. Gregor Kobel, Mateu Morey, Nico Schlotterbeck, Thomas Meunier, Soumaila Coulibaly and Julien Duranville have all had their injury troubles this summer, and while they have all had a varying degree of severity, it still raises concerns moving forward as these injury spells tend to be recurrent for Die Schwarzgelben.

The aforementioned list includes some very important players for the club; namely players that would be included in Dortmund’s strongest starting 11 (Schlotterbeck, Kobel). In addition to this, Karim Adeyemi‘s name has been added to this list, which only adds further concerns surrounding a possible strong start to Dortmund’s season. Adeyemi was not involved in Dortmund’s final preparatory game against Ajax, with the reason being “muscular issues”.

In a perfect world, Dortmund’s strongest possible front three includes Adeyemi, and while the club should bar able to clear the first hurdle in the DFB Pokal without him if need be, Adeyemi’s absence would certainly rob the team of one of their most important attacking threats in the opening stages of the Bundesliga season. Adeyemi has had a substantial amount of injury issues this year, with the German International sustaining a torn muscle fibre in March that saw him miss 5 games (38 days). The injury re-occurred in May, which saw the player sidelined from training for 49 days. The main fear would be that this is a reoccurrence or adverse result of said previous injuries.

While more information is yet to be provided regarding Adeyemi’s condition, the it will certainly be a race against time to get him fit enough for Dortmund’s first match day of the Bundesliga season. Dortmund’s first game will be against FC Köln on the 19th of August, which is approximately two weeks away.
