Julian Ryerson (6/10)

Ryerson started at right-back ahead of Marius Wolf. He put in a strong shift and looked solid defensively without causing any real problems to the Schott Mainz defence going forward.

Niklas Süle (N/R)

Süle picked up a back injury during the first half and had to be subbed off.

Mats Hummels (5/10)

Hummels did not have the best of games and struggled to cope with Schott Mainz’s pace on the counter-attack. He was also caught being a little sloppy in the lead-up to the home side’s goal.

Ramy Bensebaini (6/10)

Bensebaini looked lively going forward on his competitive debut for Borussia Dortmund, and also helped make the third goal happen with a fine cross into the box. He struggled to get on the same wavelength as his teammates at times. But overall, it was an encouraging performance.
