Julian Brandt (7/10)

Brandt started on the left wing following Karim Adeyemi’s injury and put in a decent shift despite showing some signs of rustiness. He set up Haller for the opening goal with a precise cross, before turning home Malen’s pass into the back of the net. The playmaker was able to take his foot off the gas in the second half with the job already done.

Donyell Malen (8/10)

Malen set up Brandt for Borussia Dortmund’s second goal, and then found the back of the net in the second half with a peach of a finish. The Netherlands international also set up Moukoko late on to cap off an impressive performance in the opening game of the season.

Sebastien Haller (8/10)

Haller set the tone for his side by scoring twice in the first half. His instinct and movement made it very difficult for the Schott Mainz defenders to keep pace with him, and he made the most of his chances to start his season with a brace.

Nico Schlotterbeck (6/10)

Schlotterbeck made a bit of a shaky start, and Schott Mainz scored just moments after he came on. But he recovered well and looked solid after the break. The Germany international was lucky to avoid an injury or concussion after taking an awkward tumble in the second half.
