The 2023/24 Bundesliga will get underway this weekend, and Borussia Dortmund are set to welcome FC Köln to the Westfalenstadion.
Borussia Dortmund will begin their 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign this weekend with a home game against FC Köln. The Black and Yellows will be determined to fight for the Bundesliga title once again this season, and they will be keen to start their campaign with a straightforward win against the Billy Goats.
Edin Terzic will have to make do without Gio Reyna, Julien Duranville, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Mateu Morey and Thomas Meunier once again. Niklas Süle and Emre Can should be able to feature despite sustaining minor injuries recently.
Karim Adeyemi and Felix Nmecha are both doubts ahead of kick-off, but Terzic gave hope during his pre-match press conference that the duo could be in the squad on Saturday.
FC Köln also have a few injury concerns ahead of the start of the new season, with Mark Uth and Davie Selke both doubts for Saturday’s game. Former BVB striker Steffen Tigges is also sidelined, much like Florian Dietz, Jan Thielmann, Linton Maina, and Noah Katterbach. New signing Luca Waldschmidt is expected to lead the line for Steffen Baumgart’s side.
Köln finished 11th in the Bundesliga standings last season, but have undergone a few changes in personnel over the summer. Key midfielder Ellyes Skhiri has joined Eintracht Frankfurt, while Jonas Hector retired at the end of last season.
