Emre Can has commented on his captaincy style and his desire to repay the trust of the Borussia Dortmund bosses after being appointed club captain.

Borussia Dortmund made the decision to appoint Emre Can as club captain last month, with the midfielder succeeding Marco Reus following the latter’s decision to step down from the role. Can has now given an insight into what his leadership style will be like, and how he wants to steer the ship at BVB.

"In an interview with Sky Sport, Can said:“We’re all in charge. And when we see something, I expect everyone to say something. And I’ve already said it: Just because I’m wearing the armband, I’m not the only boss now. There are many others who also have a lot of experience and who also have to take matters into their own hands. I know my duties and I will try to fulfil them as best I can.”"

Can has also said that being appointed captain is a big vote of confidence from the BVB bosses. And he now wants to repay their trust to the best of his abilities.

"“I know the captain’s armband comes with duties and responsibilities.. But in the end, I just try to remain myself. That’s the most important thing for me. It’s a big vote of confidence in me from the people in charge here. And I will try to repay that as best I can.”"

Emre Can has enjoyed a stunning resurgence at Borussia Dortmund since the turn of the year, and also played a key role in their title bid last season. The 29 year old has also commented on the support of the BVB fans after the team failed to win the Bundesliga title on the final day of last season. And he wants the team to continue to earn their support in the coming campaign.

"“It all happens through performances. And that’s what I think the fans noticed, that maybe we didn’t always play well in the second half of the season, but we were there for each other, always stepping on the gas, showing a good mentality on the pitch. And if we continue to show that, if we fight for each other, then the fans will always support us.”"
