Sebastian Kehl: Jude Bellingham’s comments not meant as Borussia Dortmund criticism
By Tushar Bahl
Sebastian Kehl does not think that Jude Bellingham was being critical of Borussia Dortmund with his comments about the high standards at Real Madrid.
Jude Bellingham has enjoyed a dream start to his Real Madrid career, scoring three goals and assisting one in his first two appearances for the Spanish giants. The midfielder was the star of the show as Real Madrid earned a 3-1 win over Almería on Saturday. And after the game, he said that he is ten times better than he was last season.
Bellingham added in an interview with Real Madrid TV that the levels at the club are so high, that he is like a sponge and taking in everything he can.
The comments were viewed by many as criticism of Borussia Dortmund, especially after reports came out last week that Bellingham’s attitude made him a rather controversial figure in the BVB dressing room.
Sebastian Kehl was asked about the comments during his appearance on BILD-TV on Sunday, and the BVB sporting director refuted claims that Jude Bellingham was having a dig at his former club. He added that they wish the 20 year old nothing but the best at Real Madrid.
"“I don’t think the statement was meant as a criticism of Borussia Dortmund or of his time with us until the summer. I know that he was not 100 percent fit in the last few months and had problems with his knee. These problems are now over. I’m still in contact with Jude, we’ve always had a very respectful relationship.”“We are happy that he is developing like this at Real Madrid. We are keeping our fingers crossed for him and wish him all the best.”"
Bellingham made 132 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 24 goals and assisting a further 25. The England international joined Real Madrid this summer for a fee of 103 million euros plus 30 million euros in bonuses.
