According to Sky Sport, Armel Bella-Kotchap is now being considered as a target by both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of German international Armel Bella-Kotchap has been complicated by Bayern Munich, who are now said to be considering the current Southhampton player as a potential transfer target. Bayern will likely be looking to bring Bella-Kotchap as a replacement for Benjamin Pavard, who has been said to be on his way out of the Bavarian club.

Just like with Dortmund, Bayern likely see Bella-Kotchap as necessary depth in a position that has been of concern all summer for both clubs. According to new information, Dortmund do not have a full verbal agreement with the player, and are likely pushing more for a loan and a possible option to buy. Bayern have allegedly also made contact with Southampton over the player as well.

Bayern’s interest is to Dortmund’s detriment because the Bavarian side can and will likely offer a more lucrative deal from Southampton’s perspective, namely because they could buy the player outright and provide necessary funds right away. From the player’s perspective, even with Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle and Mats Hummels in the squad, he would likely get more minutes in Dortmund as Hummels is aging and the third spot would very likely be up for grabs in the long run.

It is, at least for now, not a certainty that Bayern will indeed make a move for Bella-Kotchap, as they have other players in their sights as possible candidates. That being said, Bella-Kotchap certainly fits the profile of player Dortmund have bee focusing on over the last couple of windows, hence it would be a shame if they allowed him to slip through their fingers, let alone join their main competition for the Bundesliga’s title.
