Gio Reyna was able to participate in parts of team training on Thursday, two months after picking up a calf injury while on international duty.

Borussia Dortmund received a huge boost on Thursday as Gio Reyna was able to take part in some parts of team training. The USMNT international was forced to miss the entire pre-season due to the calf injury he suffered while playing in the Concacaf Nations League final in June.

Reyna will now hope to continue his progress in the coming weeks before returning to the BVB squad. There are still two more games left to play before the international break. But the plan will likely be for the attacking midfielder to return to the squad in September.

The 20 year old has been forced to deal with a string of injuries over the last two seasons, and has spent significant time on the sidelines as a result. But the hope at the club will be that his injury nightmare is finally over, and he can establish himself in the team this season.

Reyna made a total of 30 appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season. He was largely used off the bench, but still managed to make a telling impact by scoring seven goals and assisting a further four. In total, Reyna has made 107 appearances for BVB and has 17 goals and 16 assists to his name.

Gio Reyna certainly has the potential to be a difference maker for Borussia Dortmund. And if he can manage to steer clear of injuries, it would be a big boost to BVB’s bid to win the Bundesliga title this season.
