Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup vs Heidenheim
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will be back at the Westfalenstadion on Friday as they take on newly promoted side Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
The 2023/24 season is only three weeks old, but the pressure is already piling on Borussia Dortmund. Below par performances on the pitch and underwhelming signings in the transfer window have meant that questions are already being asked of Edin Terzic and co.
Borussia Dortmund will now look to issue a response on Friday with a strong performance against Heidenheim, who have started their maiden Bundesliga campaign with two straight defeats. The Black and Yellows will hope to welcome Julian Ryerson back into the squad on Friday. But Felix Nmecha is a doubt, and the likes of Gio Reyna, Julien Duranville, and Thomas Meunier are still sidelined.
Here we take a look at how Borussia Dortmund could line up for their Bundesliga clash against Heidenheim on Friday.
Gregor Kobel has been forced to pull off a number of big saves over the first two matchdays. He will hope for a rather quiet evening between the sticks against Heidenheim.
Mats Hummels appears to have shaken off his back injury and should keep his place in the starting XI. Nico Schlotterbeck returned to the starting XI last weekend and is expected to start once again on Friday.
Borussia Dortmund will hope that Julian Ryerson can return to the starting XI. But if he is not ready to play from the start, Marius Wolf could keep his place in the team. Ramy Bensebaini will start at left-back once again.
Emre Can has endured a difficult start to the season and will hope to put in an improved display against Heidenheim. With Felix Nmecha a doubt, Marcel Sabitzer should keep his place in the starting XI despite his struggles against Bochum.
Julian Brandt has arguably been Borussia Dortmund’s best outfield player so far this season. And he will hope to start in his favoured number eight role on Friday.
In attack, we could see Karim Adeyemi return to the starting XI. Donyell Malen has scored both of Borussia Dortmund’s goals in the Bundesliga so far this season. And he will look to keep his scoring streak going this weekend. Sebastien Haller will start up front, looking to open his account for the season in the Bundesliga.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund Starting XI vs Heidenheim: Kobel – Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini – Can, Sabitzer, Brandt – Malen, Adeyemi – Haller
