Niclas Füllkrug: Borussia Dortmund not in crisis despite poor start to the season
By Tushar Bahl
Niclas Füllkrug does not think that Borussia Dortmund are in crisis at the moment after their disappointing start to the 2023/24 season.
It has certainly been a less than ideal start to the new season for Borussia Dortmund, who have looked disjointed on the pitch in each of their first three Bundesliga matches. The Black and Yellows managed to squeak past Köln in their Bundesliga opener, but were held to draws by Bochum and Heidenheim – two teams likely to battle against relegation this season.
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s troubles on the pitch, new signing Niclas Füllkrug does not see it as a crisis situation just yet. The Germany international believes that they have enough quality on the pitch to bounce back in the coming weeks.
"“For me, it’s not a crisis. We’re still unbeaten. There are dents over the course of a season and we have started with a small dent. For us as BVB, it’s now about getting back on track and deliver convincing performances. There’s an incredible amount of quality in the team. That’s why I’m not that worried.”"
Füllkrug, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Werder Bremen for 15 million euros late in the transfer window, made his debut for his new club during the 2-2 draw against Heidenheim on Friday. He was called up to the Germany squad for their upcoming friendly matches, but was forced to leave the training camp due to a minor thigh issue.
Borussia Dortmund will hope that Niclas Füllkrug’s injury is not a serious one, with the striker in line to replace Sebastien Haller in the starting XI after the international break.
