Borussia Dortmund’s Belgian winger Julien Duranville could return to the match day squad for the club’s game against SC Freiburg.

Much of the updates surrounding Borussia Dortmund and injuries have been negative over the course of there last few weeks, but according to Ruhr Nachrichten, the club is set to have a reprieve from this detrimental trend. Young Belgian winger Julien Duranville could quite plausibly be available for selection against SC Freiburg this weekend should head coach Edin Terzić choose to call on him.

Duranville’s availability will come as welcome news considering the player joined Dortmund from Belgian side RSC Anderlecht last winter whilst nursing an injury. Fans didn’t get to see much of what Duranville is capable of until the final game of the season against Mainz, where the youngster put on an electrifying, albeit brief display.

While Dortmund tends to have a over-reliance on young, talented players that need refinement, Duranville’s addition to the squad comes at a very opportune moment. The club find themselves in the opposite position at this time, namely, they are laden with experience all across the pitch, but could use a bit of youthful exuberance and creativity. Duranville offers both in ample supply. The player is young and energetic, and has shown that he can be very expressive on the pitch. The game against Mainz exemplified that, even at his young age (17), he has all the skills necessary to take on and dribble past Bundesliga veterans and be a creative attacking outlet for his side.

Duranville will add to the ample depth Dortmund already have out wide with Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens also at Edin Terzić’s disposal. He will be able to compete with and push players like Adeyemi who perhaps haven’t performed to the the standard expected of them as of yet this season, and displace any of the options out wide should his performances outshine those of his aforementioned teammates.
