Borussia Dortmund allegedly show interest in Boca Juniors’ Valentin Barco
Boca Juniors’ full back Valentin Barco is being monitored by a plethora European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund are amongst a host of clubs interested in Boca Juniors starlet Valentin Barco. The Argentine has been impressive for Boca and his performances have spurred many clubs to send scouts to observe the player.
Barco mainly plays as a full back, but he has shown the versatility to play across the pitch, finding himself in more attacking positions as well. Boca have tried to deploy the talented youngster as a forward, attacking midfielder, and out on the wing to see which position he would excel in most. Considering the conservative nature of Dortmund’s current full backs, Barco could be a breath of fresh air in that department whilst providing much needed depth on the defensive end of things for the club.
The 19 year old Argentine’s current deal with Boca Juniors is set to expire in December of 2024, which means the South American side are hard pressed to either agree a new deal or see their player make the jump to Europe on a free transfer. Barco’s contract also has a 10 million euro release clause which would be an absolute steal for any prospective suitor looking to acquire the player’s services.
Barco has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists across all competitions for Boca Juniors so far in 17 appearances. In Argentina’s top flight, Barco averages 1.7 tackles per game, 2.3 dribbles per game, as well as a pass success percentage of 82%. The player is still clearly raw, but his performances have given the indication that he can really be an interesting player for Dortmund to look into developing.
At this time, these links are rather vague, which means there is no indication a concrete offer will be made anytime soon. That being said, Dortmund certainly should explore the idea of bringing in more depth at the back, and their alleged interest in Barco is a glimmer of hope that they may actually seek to reinforce the squad adequately.
