Felix Nmecha fails to make his mark again

Felix Nmecha had an evening to forget against PSG as he almost looked like he did not want to be on the pitch at Parc des Princes. Being back in Germany and facing his old club were the perfect settings for him to put on a solid display. But unfortunately, he failed to even come close to showing why Borussia Dortmund spent 30 million euros on him.

The pressure on Nmecha is somewhat unfairly on his back without any breathing space, as he is being asked to fill the Jude Bellingham-shaped hole in midfield at Borussia Dortmund.

The eyes on individual performances of the big money signings are going to be magnified greatly when the club is not performing well, therefore Nmecha’s recent displays strike out as unimpressive in particular. He has not integrated into the team as of yet nor are his efforts – which are bare minimum requirements – up to scratch.

His current role is as a number eight, but it may be better served for him to sit deeper as he is struggling to find the balance of contributing to the offensive and defensive side of things. The role he is playing in particular is integral to Dortmund’s setup – so putting Nmecha in the spotlight may not exactly be the best decision for his abilities but also for his confidence and performances going forward.
