Report: Borussia Dortmund scout Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez
According to reports, Borussia Dortmund sent scouts to Ajax’s recent clash with Feyenoord to watch Mexican international Santiago Gimenez.
Borussia Dortmund’s links to attacking players seem to be never ending these days, with the club allegedly having sent scouts to watch Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez as he featured for Feyenoord against Ajax in the recent meeting between the two clubs. Gimenez, who has made a name for himself in the Eredivisie, has taken the Dutch top flight by storm, scoring 19 goals in 25 league games.
Gimenez’s numbers are indeed impressive, which means Dortmund are by no means the only club keeping tabs on him. Among the other clubs watching the player, Arsenal, Chelsea & Tottenham also sent scouts to observe the talented striker.
Dortmund, as we are well aware, already have three strikers on the books in the form of Niclas Füllkrug, Sébastien Haller, and Youssoufa Moukoko. The fact that the club are scouting yet another attacking player lends credence to the news surrounding Moukoko and his potential future at the club. It is far too early to tell if this is entirely the case, however.
Of course, there are other players of interest that Dortmund could have sent scouts to watch as well. Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida also plies his trade for Feyenoord, which would be a far more enticing and sensible target for Dortmund to keeping their tabs on, but this is just my personal opinion filtering through at this time.
Recent reports have also surfaced that Hans-Joachim Watzke and Sebastian Kehl have held discussions about looking to sign the club’s “next superstar”, which could point to signs of their dissatisfaction with the quality this current Dortmund sign exhibits. Dortmund have also recently has success scouting in the Netherlands, with this season’s top performer, Donyell Malen, having been brought in from PSV Eindhoven a few seasons ago. Whatever the case may be regarding Gimenez or any other players, it’s clear that the club are looking to make changes, and possibly soon.
