Borussia Dortmund will continue their bid to win the DFB-Pokal with a second round clash against TSG Hoffenheim at home.
The draw for the second round of the DFB-Pokal has been made, and Borussia Dortmund will have to overcome the challenge of TSG Hoffenheim in order to qualify for the round of 16. The tie will take place on October 31 or November 1 at the Westfalenstadion.
Borussia Dortmund cruised to a comfortable 6-1 win over TSV Schott Mainz in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. While TSG Hoffenheim claimed a 4-1 win over VfB Lübeck.
The two sides last faced off on Friday in the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund coming out on top 3-1 in a closely contested contest thanks to goals from Niclas Füllkrug, Marco Reus and Julian Ryerson. But the result could have been very different had Hoffenheim made the most of their chances, and Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side will now hope to gain a measure of revenge in the DFB-Pokal.
Borussia Dortmund last won the DFB-Pokal in 2021, beating RB Leipzig in the final. And after two underwhelming showings in the competition, they will be determined to lift the trophy again this year.
Also in the second round of the Pokal, we will see Bayern Munich take on 3. Liga side 1. FC Saarbrücken. Reigning champions RB Leipzig will go up against VfL Wolfsburg, while the in-form Bayer Leverkusen will face SV Sandhausen. And Schalke 04 will travel to St. Pauli.
The second round of the DFB-Pokal will take place from October 31 to November 1, 2023. The round of 16 is scheduled for December 5-6, 2023.
