Opinion: Why Borussia Dortmund should consider a move for USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso

Comparing Johnny Cardoso to a recent export from Brazil
In looking at Danilo, a highly thought of Brazilian midfielder, you can compare Johnny Cardoso to a player who has made the jump from Brazil to impact a team in a top 5 league. In Cardoso’s last two seasons in Brazil, he outranks the Nottingham Forest midfielder in many key categories. Cordoso is a more efficient passer, has more end product and better defensive output.
This isn’t to say Cordoso has the same potential as Danilo but, he has shown more than enough to be given a chance to make the jump to a top league. Only a few days over the age of 22, Johnny Cardoso should be snapped up before he gets his move to Europe and boosts his market value.
With a rapidly growing Transfermarkt value and a contract that ends in 2026, Cardoso should cost 6-10 million euros. But the longer any club waits to sign the in-demand midfielder, the more that price could rise. With the majority of Borussia Dortmund’s midfield spend gone, if issues continue in the middle of the park, Cardoso could be an ideal solution.
