It was the United States who took the lead, with former Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic finding the back of the net with an excellent finish from the edge of the box after a darting forward run.
İlkay Gündoğan then issued Germany’s response by scoring from close range, before Niclas Füllkrug turned the game on its head with a quick-fire goal and assist in the second-half.
The Borussia Dortmund striker gave Julian Nagelsmann’s side the lead in the 58th minute after being picked out by Robin Gosens.
